Yes,trade played an important role in colonisation. As we can see that from the industrial revolution period onwards capitalism began to take it's place at zenith.Due to the large no. of production ,need for the market was felt and as a result they began to explore different countries in search of markets. And later on they began to settle and form different colonies at the other countries leading towards the development of colonisation.
