The poem “the cold within describes how the people died out of cold as they failed to accept and help each other.

Explanation:

The “Cold Within” is a poem written by James Kinney in which he portrays the inability of the people to accept and help each other when they are in need. On a bitterly cold night, everyone had a stick to keep the dying fire going. As they were not together willingly, the first man did not give his stick due to racial prejudice which left the fire die. If they were united, they would have survived. As they failed to do so, the fire went off and many lost their lives. According to me, it was not cold weather that killed them, but the frigidity of their hearts led to their death.
