                        = $\frac{5*12}{2}$

                        = 30 $cm^{2}$

To find length of AD, consider BC as the base and AD as the height of △ABC.

Area of △ABC = 30 $cm^{2}$

30 $cm^{2}$ = $\frac{AD*BC}{2}$

30*2    = AD*13

$\frac{60}{13}$         = AD

AD = 4.616 = 4.62 cm

∴ Area of triangle ABC = 30 $cm^{2}$ and length of AD = 4.6 cm
