Try to find out the moisture content of a soil sample. One method is given here. Activity: Activity: Take Activity: 100g soil. (Take help from any shopkeepers to weigh the soil.) Place it on a newspaper in the sun and allow it to dry for two hours. This activity is best done in the afternoon. Take care that the soil does not spill outside the newspaper. After drying it, weigh the soil again. The difference in the weight of the soil before and after drying gives you the amount of moisture contained in 100 g of soil. This is called the percentage moisture content.Suppose your sample of soil loses 10 g on drying. Then In this example Per cent of moisture in Per cent of moisture in soil = wt. of moisture (g) --------------------------------×100 In this example Original wt. of soil sample (g) Per cent of moisture in soil 10×100 ----------------- 10% 100

Another method is to heat the soil in a closed vessel in home until all water turns into steam.

Explanation:

Another method is to heat the soil in a closed vessel in home until all water turns into steam. collect that steam from the vessel wich is deposited under the lid of the vessel. Weight the water droplets using a weighing machine or something like that.

Steps to complete the experiment are:

  1. Take soil weigh 100 grams. put that in a vessel
  2. Close that vessel with a lid so that no air or steam can pass throght vessel and go inside.
  3. Put that vessel on the gas and burn it fiwth full flame.
  4. It will take 5 minutes approximately. All the droplets get collected under the lid of the vessel.
  5. Take the lid after soil becomes dry due to heat and put that droplets in ameasuring beaker beaker to measure it or put it on weighing machine to know it's weight.
