Work Done by the Earth moving around the sun is zero because work done in a circular motion is zero.
Vartika Singh answered this
no the workdone is not zero.
there is workdone by earth...becoz earth displaced distance time to time and some force like centripital ,centrifugal ,gravitational ect...
and we know that work is said to be done when there is some displacement in the object and certain force are acting on it........
hope thi answer helps u.........

work done is zero becoz earth moves in a circular orbit and we know that work is done when there is displacement. therfore due to centri pital frce the work done is zero
Rahul Rawat answered this
The work done by earth on the sun is ZERO because the force acting on earth by the sun is the centriptal force and it works in 90 degree and the value of cos 90 is equal to 0.

So, i think work done is 0. Rgt?

because of central petal force work is said to be zero as the displacement is always perpendicular to the direction of force (w=o)
Raman Mishra answered this
Work done will be zero bcoz of 2 reasons -
force & displacement will B perpendicular & so Work done has to B zero.
as yhe Earth moves in a circular path the displacement will B zero & as Work done=Force * displacement
N*0=0 so work done will B zero.
Raman Mishra answered this
There is zero work being done, because the average motion of the earth is perpendicular to the force of gravity. Since W=Fdcos x, when x=90, the work dont is 0.
Something which is talked about less is that the earth is losing gravitational potential energy in the form of gravitational waves, so the work being done by the sun's gravity actually DOES add up to something, although it's minute. The power (rate of change of energy) being lost by the earth is approximately enough to power a small toaster. However, if this is for a class, I imagine the answer your teacher was looking for was 0J.

Earth does not move in a circular path!! It is an ellipse!!
At points in the orbit where gravity is a bit stronger(i.e.,less radius) the earth moves faster . The opposite happens at points in the orbit where gravity is weaker.
however the work is estimated as 0 most of the times.

work done is zero as-
1. the force centripetal or centre seeking force is acting at an angle of 90 degree and value of cos90 is 0 so work done is zero
2.the displacement is zero as the earth comes back to its mean position. thus, work done is zero (w=fs)

When a body moves in a circular path then the centripetal force acts along the radius of the circle, and it is at right angle to the motion of the body.
Thus the work done in case of earth moving around the sun is Zero.
