an alloy is a homogenous mixture of metals and non-metals. It is prepared by first melting the primary metal and then adding the Constituents in it.Alloys often have properties thatare different to the metals they contain. This makes them more useful than the pure metals alone. Alloys are made to Enhance the hardness of a metal. An alloy is harder than its components.

1 pure iron is very flexible and soft so it is alloyed with chromium , nickle , carbon etc to make it hard and durable (in the form we know it)
2 alloys are an excellent method to prevent corrosion. thers a pillar in india which is made of iron and some other alloys and it is rust free evn though it is 1500 yrs old or something
3 alloys are also used cuz they have lover meltig and boiling points than constituent metals. so they wud melt immidealtly and hence all fuses and solder metal used for weilding are alloys.
i hope it helps
