Given,

Two angles P and Q form a linear pair.

Angle P = 144°

Angle Q = (5x + 16)°

To find,

(a) The value of x

(b) The measure of angle Q

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem using the following process:

According to the question;

Both angles P and Q form a linear pair

=> Angle P and angle Q are supplementary angles

=> sum of the measure of angle P and angle Q = 180°

=> 144° + (5x + 16)° = 180°

=> 5x + (144 + 16) = 180

=> 5x + 160 = 180

=> 5x = 20

=> x = 20/5

=> x = 4

Now, the measure of angle Q

= (5x + 16)°

= (5×4 + 16)°

= (20 + 16)°

= 36°

Hence, the value of x is 4 and the measure of angle Q is equal to 36°, respectively.
