Question given is incomplete. Time must be given. Since, it is not given so let us assume the time be 2 seconds.

Now, on that basis question is solved.

Applying the Formula,

For first ball,

u = 40 m/s.

S = ut + 1/2 × at²

⇒ S = 40 × 2 + 1/2 × (-10)(2)²

⇒ S = 80 + 1/2 × -40

⇒ S = 80 - 20

⇒ S = 60 m

For second ball,

u = 60 m/s.

S = 60 × 2 + 1/2 × (-10)(2)²

⇒ S = 120 - 20

⇒ S = 100 m

Hence, the relative position of the second ball with respect to the first ball is 100 - 60 = 40 m.

Also, the relative position of the first ball with respect to the second ball = -40 m.

Hope it helps.
