let us assume there be two balls of masses M1 and M2 and since these two balls are in air their acceleration must be g downvids and on using the formula of acceleration of centre mass and putting their respective , value of acceleration of centre of mass is equal to (M1g+M2g)/(M1+M2) and taking g common and you can get acceleration of centre of mass of two balls is g downwards.
