The pole strength of each piece when a bar magnet is cut into two equal halves perpendicular to its length is the same as the pole strength of the original bar magnet. However, the magnetic moment of each piece is half the magneticmoment of the original bar magnet.

We will get 4 new bar magnets on cutting two bar magnets as given.

- On cutting the first bar magnet vertically, we get 2 new bar magnets.

- The breadth of these will be the same but the length will be reduced.

- On cutting the second bar magnet horizontally, we again get 2 new bar magnets.

- This time, the length will remain the same but the breadth will be reduced.
