Given info : Two bikes p and q started at the same place and time p is moving with a uniform velocity of 20m/s and q is moving with a uniform acceleration of 2m/s².

To find : after what time q can cross p ?

solution : case 1 : bike p is moving with a uniform velocity of 20 m/s².

let after time t, both p and q cross each other.

so, at time = t

distance covered by bike p , s = 20t

case 2 : bike q is moving with a uniform acceleration of 2 m/s².

initial velocity of bike q , u = 0 m/s

after time t,

distance covered by bike q , s = ut + 1/2 at²

= 0 + 1/2 × 2 × t² = t²

as both started at the same place and time.

distance covered by bike p = distance covered by bike q

⇒20t = t²

⇒t = 20 sec

Therefore after 20 sec, bike q can cross bike p.
