Two blocks of cheese have approximately the same mass . One measures 7cm x 6cm x 12cm and the other measures 8 cm x 8cm x 8cm . Which will need more shrink wrap ? Explain ! please give explanation !
Answers
Solution:
First cheese block measurements => 7 cm x 6 cm x 12 cm
Second cheese block measurements => 8 cm x 8 cm x 8 cm
Cheese block is in a shape of cuboid.
Surface area of cuboid = 2(LW + LH + WH)
where,
L = Length
W = Width
H = Height
Surface area of first cheese block = 2(LW + LH + WH)
= 2(7*6 + 7*12 + 6*12)
= 2(42 + 84 + 72)
= 2 * 198
= 396 cm²
Surface area of second cheese block = 2(LW + LH + WH)
= 2(8*8 + 8*8 + 8*8)
= 2(64 + 64 + 64)
= 2 * 192
= 384 cm²
The first cheese block will require more shrink wrap as it is having more surface area so, required shrink wrap to cover will be more too.
Shrink wrap is that thing which is used to cover things and is made up of polymer plastic film.
Given : Two blocks of cheese have approximately the same mass . One measures 7cm x 6cm x 12cm and the other measures 8 cm x 8cm x 8cm .
To find : Which will need more shrink Wrap
Solution:
Shrink wrap area will be more if surface area will be more
Lets find out Total Surface area of each
7cm x 6cm x 12cm
Surface area = 2 ( 7 * 6 + 7 * 12 + 6 * 12)
= 2( 42 + 84 + 72)
= 2( 198)
= 396 cm²
other measures 8 cm x 8cm x 8cm .
Surface area = 6 * 8²
= 384 cm²
396 > 384
7cm x 6cm x 12cm has more surface area hence will need more shrink wrap
