Answer: F/3 N

Concept: Newton's Law of Motion

Given:  Two boxes of mass 1Kg and 2Kg resp. connected by string of tension T and force F

To Find: Tension In the string.

Explanation:

let a is the Acceleration.

Total mass, M = 1+2=3kg.

Acc. To  Newton’s second law of motion,

F=Ma

M = 3 Kg

Force = 3*a

F = 3a

a = F/3 .....(1)

Now, To find tension,

Apply Newton's Law of Motion on Box ,

F−T=ma .....(2)

m = 2Kg

a = F/3

Put the above values in equation (2)

F-T = 2a

F-T =2* F/3

F-2F/3  = T

T = F/3 N

Hence, the tension in the string will be F/3 N.

(N as in Newton)
