Two blocks of masses 8 kg and 2 kg respectively lie on a smooth horizontal surface in contact with one other.They are pushed by a horizontal applied force of 15N .calculate the force exerted on the 2 kg masses

Solution:

m1 = 8 kg

m2 = 2 kg

total mass of the system = m = 2+8 = 10 kg

net force on the system = F = 15 N

net acceleration of the system = a = F/m

=> a = 15/10 = 1.5 m/s^2

acceleration of m2 = a = 1.5 m/s^2

net force on m2 = 2 × 1.5 = 3 N ..... answer..
