Kinetic Energy

Given

Two bodies of equal masses are moving with uniform velocities v and 2v.

To Find

Ratio of their Kinetic Energies.

Formula to be used

Kinetic Energy = mv² / 2

where

m is the mass of object/body

v is the uniform velocity of object/body

Solving

Let 'm' be the mass of given two bodies.

Uniform velocity of body 1 = v

K.E. of first body is = mv² / 2

Uniform velocity of body 2 = 2v

K.E. of second body is = m( 2v )² / 2

K.E. of second body is = 4mv² / 2

( K.E. represents Kinetic Energy )

Now,

We will take ratio of these two energies

K.E. of body 1 / K.E. of body 2

( mv² / 2 ) / ( 4mv² / 2 )

1 / 4

Answer

So, the ratio of their Kinetic Energy is 1 : 4.
