Answer:

1 : 2

Explanation:

Given :-

Two bodies of equal masses are placed at a height h and 2h.

So,

\sf{}Height\ of\ the\ first\ body,h_1 =h

\sf{}Height\ of\ the\ second\ body,h_2 =2h

\sf{}Mass\ of\ the\ first\ body,m_1 =m

\sf{}Mass\ of\ the\ second\ body,m_2=m

To Find :-

The ratio of their gravitational potential energies.

Formula :-

\sf{}U=mgh\ where\ m\ is\ the\ object,g\ is\ the\ acceleration\ due\ to\ gravity.

Solution :-

\sf{}Gravitational\ potential\ energy\ of\ the\ first\ body:U_1= mgh

\sf{}Gravitational\ potential\ energy\ of\ the\ second\ body:U_2=mg(2h)

Therefore,ratio of gravitational potential energies :-

\implies \sf{}\dfrac{mgh}{mg(2h)}

\implies \sf{}\dfrac{mgh}{2mgh}

Cancel m,g,h of both numerator and denominator.

\implies \sf{} 1/2

\therefore \sf{}1:2

☆Know more☆

  • Potential energy is a form of energy by the temperance of the shape or position of the body.
  • The SI unit of gravitational potential is J/Kg.
  • Gravitational potential energy is maximum at the ground level/surface of earth.
  • At infinity the value of gravitational potential energy is zero.
