Two bodies of masses 10kg and 2kg are moving with velocity of 2m/s and 10m/s.After coloiding the velocity of Javier body becomes 3m/s.Calculate the velocity of lighter body after college.​

Solution :-

For block A (heavier)

Mass = 10kg

Initial velocity = 2m/s

Final velocity = 3m/s

For block B (lighter)

Mass = 2kg

Initial velocity = 10m/s

To find : we have to find final velocity of lighter body after collision.

Since no not external force acts on the whole system, linear momentum is conserved.

Therefore initial momentum of the system will be equal to the final momentum of system.

→ p(initial) = p(final)

→ m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂

→ (10×2) + (2×10) = (10×3) + (2×v₂)

→ 20 + 20 = 30 + 2v₂

→ 10 = 2v₂

→ v₂ = 5m/s
