let total no. be x
he get 300 out of x =300/x
given percentage oh his votes =65%
300/××100 =65
(using the formula of percentage)
it can give the value of x , which is the same total.

muskan77016: (let total votes x.)( next ;suppose 65x/100 - x= the votes gained by another person)(then it gives 30x/100 ;the votes gain by the another person, after these add 300 in the votes gain by the another person , because it gives a balance )( 30x/100+300=65x/100)( solving these equation it give the value of x which is 1000 ) ( after that you it gives you your answer)
