Two candidates fought an election one of them got 75% of the toral votes and won by 750 votes. what is the total number of votes polled?

Let total number of votes be x

If A got - ( 75/100 × x )

B got - ( 25/100 × x )

then according to question

( 75/100 × x ) - ( 25/100 × x ) = 750

or, 75x - 25x / 100 = 750 { Taking 100 as L.C.M }

or, 50x / 100 = 750

or, x = 750 × 100 / 50

or, x = 750 × 2

or, x = 1500

Therefore, total number of votes polled is 1500
