So, x + y = 90°                                                                           (1)
And given, that x - y = 12°                                                         (2)

Adding (1) and (2) gives,
  x+y+x-y = 90°-12°
     or, 2x = 78°
     or, x = 39°

∴ The angles are 39° and 51°.
