Answer:

75 miles/hr and 25 miles/hr.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's assume the speeds of two cars are 'x' miles/hr and 'y' miles/hr respectively and [x>y].

Those are 100 miles apart.

Opposite direction,

After 1 hour they'll meet(given);

In 1 hr, first car travels = x miles.

In 1 hr, 2nd car travels = y miles.

Thus, (x+y) = 100....... (i)

Same direction,

After 2 hour they'll meet.

In 2 hrs, 1st car travels = 2x miles.

In 2 hrs, 2nd car travels = 2y miles.

Thus, 2x = 2y + 100

or, 2(x-y) = 100

or, (x-y) = 50......... (ii)

(i) + (ii)

(x+y) + (x-y) = 100 + 50

or, 2x = 150

or, x = 75

Therefore, y = (x+y) - x

or, y = 100 - 75

or, y = 25

Thus, speeds of the two cars are 75 miles/hr and 25 miles/hr respectively.

In the attached image, the car with speed x miles/hr is denoted as car A & the car with speed y miles/hr is denoted as car B.
