Answer:

distance of the cars = 960 km

step by step explanation :

let cars be A and B

given that,

speed of car A = 60

speed of car B = 64

we know that,

distance of both cars is same

let,

distance of cars be x

we know that ,

car A took 1hr more than car B

let,

time taken by car B be y

so,

time taken by car A = y+1 hr

we know that,

speed =distance

time

car A - 60 = _x_______ -------- 1

y + 1

car B : 64 = x. ----------- 2

y

from both equations :

x = 60y + 60

x = 64y

then,

60y + 60 = 64y

64y - 60y = 60

4y = 60

y = 60/4 = 15

substitute y in equation 1

60 = x/y + 1

60 = x/ 15+1

60 = x/ 16

x = 60*16

x = 960

therefore distance covered by both cars is 960 km
