Two cars p and q start from a point at the same time from a and b which are 120 km apart
Answers
Complete Question as follows:
Two cars P and Q start at the same time from A and B which are 120 km apart. If the two cars travel in opposite directions, they meet after one hour and if they travel in same direction (from A towards B), then P meets Q after 6 hour. What is the speed of car P?
Solution:
- Distance between A and B = 120 km
- If they travel in opposite direction, they meet after 1 hour
- If they travel int he same direction (A towards B), then they meet after 6 hours
When the are traveling in opposite direction
Time traveled = 1 hour (Given)
Let P traveled x km when they met
⇒ Speed = x km/h
Q traveled (120 - x) km when they met
⇒ Speed = (120 - x) km/h
When the are traveling in the same direction:
Distance = Time x Speed
Time traveled = 6 hours
In 6 hours, P traveled = 6x km
In 6 hours, Q traveled = 6(120 - x) = 720 - 6x km
Given that P starts travelling from A and Q from B
Difference in distance = 120 km
6x + 120 = 720 - 6x
12x = 600
x = 50
Find the speed:
P = x = 50 km/h
Q = 120 - x = 120 - 50 = 70 km/h
Answer: P traveled 50 km/h and Q traveled 70 km/h
