Two containers X & Y are filled with equal amount of hot water & the temperature of thewater in the containers is measured with a thermometer some time later.it is observed that container X has a much lower temperature than container Y.Which of the following are the possible reasons? 1) Container X is black & container Y is silver. B) container X has a lid & container Y isnot covered. C) Container X is made of steel & container Y is made of clay. A) 1&2. B) 1 & 3. C) 2&3. D)1,2&3

Option B)1&3, has most suitable reasons why container X should be at a lower temperature than container Y

-If the container X has lower temperature than container Y, it means that container X has radiated more heat to the surroundings than container Y.

WHY NOT 2?

option 2 involved closed container X, in which case (assuming both containers are made of same material) container X must be hotter than container y, which was open.

WHY 1?

-We know that black containers are best absorbers and radiators of heat.

-Hence, black container X has radiated more heat than silver container Y,    leading to lower temperature of X than Y.

WHY 3?

-We know that clay is an insulator for heat, hence does not conduct heat from water to the surroundings. This keeps container Y hotter than container X. Container X is made of steel, which is a conductor by which heat was radiated.
