Two cyclists start from the same point of a mountain. One travels 1500 m downward the mountain in
15 minutes where the other travels 250 m upward the mountain in the same time. How far are they
from each other after 15 minutes?​

Distance travelled by 1st cyclist in 20 mins = 1200 m

Distance travelled by 2nd cyclist in 20 mins = 350 m

To Find :

How far are the 2 cyclists from each other after 20 mins =?

Solution :

Since they have both started from the same point and are moving in opposite directions.

Lets assume the downward direction to be positive and upward direction to be negative :

So, distance travelled by the 1st cyclist = + 1200 m

And  distance travelled by the 2nd cyclist = - 350 m

So, the gap between them will be = 1200 + (- 350 )

                                                        = 1200 - 350 m

                                                         =850 m

So, after 20 mins they are 850 m far from each other .
