Given :

Distance traveled by first cyclist in 12 mins = 1200 m

Distance traveled by second cyclist in 12 mins = 235 m

To Find :

How far are the two cyclists from each other after 12 mins

Solution :

Lets the downward direction be positive and the upward direction be negative

Thus,

Distance traveled by the 1st cyclist = + 1200 m

Distance traveled by the 2nd cyclist = - 235 m

Gap between them = 1200 + ( - 235 )

= 1200 - 235

= 965 m

Answer: Therefore, after 12 minutes they will be 965 m far from each other .
