For a 2 die the total combinations are 6*6 =36.

For the sum of 2 die to be less than 6, following are the combinations.

Die 1 Die 2

1 + 1

1 + 2

1 + 3

1 + 4

2 + 1

2 + 2

2 + 3

3 + 1

3 + 2

4 + 1

There are 10 combinations where the sum is less than 6. So the total probability is 10/36 =5/18
