its option is 2 xy2 cause 75.8/75 its nearly 1 and remaining 24.2 divided by 12 is nearly 2

Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

(B) XY₂

● Explaination -

Consider 100 g of supposed compound. It will have 75.8 g of X and 100-75.8 = 24.2 g of Y.

Moles of X will be -

n(X) = 75.8 / 75

n(X) = 1.01

Moles of Y will be -

n(Y) = 24.2 / 12

n(Y) = 2.02

Ratio of moles of X to Y is -

n(X) : n(Y) = 1.01 : 2.02

n(X) : n(Y) = 1 : 2

Therefore, empirical formula of required compound is XY₂.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
