Two equal positive charges Q are fixed at points ( a, 0) and ( - a, 0 ) on the X axis.An opposite charge - q at rest is released from point ( 0, a ) on the y axis. The charge- q will
(1) move to infinity
(2) move to origin
(3) undergo SHE
(4) Execute oscillatory periodic motion but not SHM
Please explain me with reason

Answer:

Explanation:

Components of force on point Q due to the charges at A and B the along y-axis will cancel each other. Whereas, along the x-axis they will add up and will be along CO.

E = kQ/a² for each charge, but since each vector points in the opposite direction so E = 0

Thus, when the charge of -q will be released, both the positive charges present along the x-axis will attract a negative charge in a way that the horizontal component of force will cancel each other and thus the net force will be in downward direction towards the origin. Whereas, the net force acts in a vertical direction, thus the particle executes periodic oscillatory motion but not SHM.
