There are two major social divisions in Northern Ireland.

One is Roman Catholics, and the other is Protestants.

Roman Catholics have 44% of the population.

Catholics have 53% of the population.

Catholics want to be a part of the Republic of Ireland.

But Protestants want to be the UK.

Protestants are rich and powerful.

But Catholics are poor.

This makes the political conflict.
