Two equal sides of a triangle are each 4 metre less than thrice the third side. If the perimeter of the triangle is 55 metres , the length of the sides.

Let the length of the third side be x

Then, length of the equal sides = (x - 4)

Perimeter = 55 cm


Therefore, x + 2(x - 4) = 55

or, x + 2x - 8 = 55

or, 3x - 8 = 55

or, 3x = 55 + 8

or, 3x = 63

or, x = 63/3

or, x = 21 cm


Length of the equal sides = 21 - 4 = 17 cm

Length of the third side = 21 cm
