SOLUTION :

The perimeter of a triangle = 55 m         (given)

Two equal sides of a triangle are each 4 m less than three times the third side    (given)

To be found :-

The dimensions of the triangle

Let,

Third side of the triangle be x m

So,

Two equal side will be = (3x - 4) m

We know that,

Perimeter of a triangle = Sum of all sides

⇒ 55 = x + (3x - 4) + (3x - 4)

⇒ 55 = x + 6x - 8

⇒ 55 + 8 = 7x          [ transporting -8 to LHS ]

⇒ 63 = 7x

⇒ 63 ÷ 7 = x

⇒ 9 = x

Value of x = 9

Now,

First two sides = (3x - 4) m = (3 × 9 - 4) m = 23 m

Third side = x = 9 m

Hence

The dimensions of triangle is 23 m, 23 m and 9 m
