Two-fifth of the cars manufactured by a company
are defective. Three-fifth of the defective cars and
one-twentieth of the non-defective cars are left-
hand-drive. If all the left-hand-drive cars are only
exported by the company and every car
manufactured is either left-hand-drive or right-hand-
drive, then what fraction of exported left hand cars
are defective?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the number of cars.

Defective cars (D) = 2x/5.

Non-defective cars (ND) = 3x/5.

left hand drive cars = 3/5 of (2x/5) + 1/20 of (3x/5ND)

                                   = 6x/25   + 3x/100

                                         ↑               ↑

                                         D               ND

Let number of cars be = LCM (25,100) = 100 = x

So Defective left hand drive cars = 24.

Non-Defective Left hand drive cars = 3

The fraction of exported left hand cars which are defective = 24/27.
