Answer:

4 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, let the time taken by Ram and Shyam to meet each other be X h

Now, Speed of Ram = 8 km/h

So, distance covered by him before meeting = Speed × Time = 8 km/h × X = 8x km

Again, the speed of Shyam = 12 km/h

So, distance covered by him before meeting= Speed × Time = 12 km/h × X = 12x km

So according to question,

8x + 12x = 10 \\  =  > 20x = 10 \\  =  > x =  \frac{10}{20}  \\  =  > x =  \frac{1}{2}

Now, distance covered by Ram

 = 8x \\  = 8 \times  \frac{1}{2}  \\  = 4 \: km

So, Ram travelled 4 km.

Answer:

Ram travelled 4km before they meet each other.

Step-by-step explanation:

In reference to the below image:

Let's suppose, Ram and Shyam meet at a point that is x km away from Ram and as the total distance between them is 10 km , so they meet 10-x km away from Shyam.

Therefore, according to the formula:

time = \frac{distance}{speed}

Since both Ram and Shyam meet at the same time, hence we equalize the time taken by both to meet.

  • \frac{x}{8} = \frac{10-x}{12}
  • On solving, 12x = 80 - 8x
  • x= 4 km.

Hence, the distance Ram travelled before meeting is 4km and the distance Shyam travelled before meeting is 10-4 = 6km.
