Given that, ball A carry a charge of -q and ball B carry a charge of +3q.

Also given in question that, ball A and ball B are brought in contact with each other and then separated by a distance D.

We have to find the nature of force between both the balls.

Since, they are brought in contact with each other. So, charge on ball is given by:

= (Charge of ball A + Charge on ball B)/2

= (-q + 3q)/2

= 2q/2

= q

Therefore, both balls are carrying a charge of +q.

The nature of coulomb force between them is repulsive in nature. As, both the balls are carrying positive charge.

Additional Information

Charge is inherent property of matter due to which they attract or repel each other.

→ Charges is of two types: positive and negative.

→ Like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other.

→ It is additive in nature i.e. +6C -3C = +3C

→ It is conserved i.e. charge can neither be created nor be destroyed, but can transfer from one body to another body.

→ Charge is invariant. It doesn't vary with velocity.
