The Great Plains of India consists of alluvial soil  brought down  and deposited by the rivers originating in the Himalayan and the Peninsular region. It is an uninterrupted alluvium formed by the deposition of silt by the numerous rivers. It is covered with most productive soils of the world, which has the capacity to grow any crop of the tropical and temperate regions.

The two characteristics of the soil of the Ganga plain are:-

1- they are fertile. This ability is for the Ganga plains so that they could rise more no of plants and trees.it is also required for the plant habitat and better growth.

2 - alluvial. This property is used to make the soil loose to and make the flow of the water smooth.
