Answer:

  • The Current (I) drawn will be 0.72 A

Given:

  1. Rating:- 100 W, 220 V
  2. Rating :- 60 W, 220 V

Explanation:

Firstly as we know that the Lamps are connected parallel  connection. Hence, the voltage will be constant i.e. 220 V.

Let's find the net Power of the lamps when they are connected in parallel.

From the formula, we know

P = P₁ + P₂

Here,

  • P₁ is the power of first lamp.
  • P₂ is the power of second lamp.
  • P Denotes net power.

Substituting the values,

⇒ P = 100 W + 60 W

⇒ P = 100 + 60

⇒ P = 160

P = 160 W

We got the net power when they are connected in parallel.

Now, Finding the current,

From the formula we know,

P = V² / R

Here,

  • P Denotes Power.
  • V denotes Potential difference.
  • R Denotes Resistance.

Now,

⇒ P = V² / R

⇒ P = V² / (V/I)    ∵ [ R = V/I ]

⇒ P = ( V² × I ) / V

P = V I

Substituting the values,

⇒ 160 W = 220 V × I

⇒ 160 = 220 × I

⇒ I = 160 / 220

⇒ I = 0.72

I = 0.72 A

The Current (I) drawn will be 0.72 A.
