Two lamps one rated at 100 W at 220 V and other 40 W at 220 V are connected in parallel to 220 V mains supply. What is the current drawn from the supply line?

Answer:

P =VI

P = 100 W

V = 220 V

100 = 220 × I

I = 0.45 A

P2 = 40 W

V2 = 220 V

40 = 220 × I

I2 = 0.18 A

After knowing the current we can find the total current used = I + I2

0.45 + 0.18

0.63 Ampere
