Two large conducting plates are placed parallel to each other and they carry equal and opposite charges with surface density σ as shown in the figure (30-E6). Find the electric field (a) at the left of the plates (b) in between the plates and (c) at the right of the plates.

Answer:

Explanation:

  • The area density : The area density (also known as areal density, surface density, superficial density, areic density, mass thickness, column density, or density thickness) of a two-dimensional object is calculated as the mass per unit area. The SI derived unit is: kilogram per square metre (kg·m−2).

Given: Surface density = σ

in answer of part (a) and(c)

For any point to the left & right of the dual plate,

the electric field is zero.

As there are no electric flux outside the system.

(b) For a test charge put in the middle.

it experience toward -ve plate.
