The term Political Theory is interchangeable with the terms like ,'political philosophy’ ,'political thoughts’ , ‘ Political analysis’ , and 'political ideology’. The first concern, therefore is to clearly define as ‘ Political Theory’

Political Theory is the branch of Political science which attempts to arrive at generalization, inference or conclusion from available data relating to Political phenomena.Political Theory is not only a Theory of or about politics .It Is about the science of politics and the philosophy of politics. Political Theory is a Theory of Science and philosophy of what is ‘’politics” I.e,. Science of politics and philosophy of politics about what is politics.

According to Sabine if we were to broadly describe Political Theory as ‘ any thinking about politics or relevant to politics’ We would come closer to including all human thought for all time.Political Theory in its aboard itz has two branches:- They are

1. Political philosophy or Nor Normative Theory.

2. Empirical Theory.
