pulley accelerating upward at arate A as shown. If a1 and a2 be
the acceleration of bodies 1 and 2 respectively then:
(A) A = a1 -a2

Answer: a2+a1 will be the net acceleration

Explanation:

In this free body diagram if we consider the resultant force the mass 1 is lighter than mass 2. One being it's bigger in size. Second the mass 2 is coming downward and m1 moving upwards. As it is moving upwards against gravity the force will never be more than the force exerted by m2.

Now the net acceleration will be a2+a1 as the net force resultant as the acceleration of a1 will be added on a2
