given,x/y=1/2
⇒2x=y
(x-5)/(y+4)=5/4
⇒4(x-5)=5(y+4)
⇒4x-20=5y+20
from 1 equation,
⇒4x-20=10x+20
⇒6x=-40
⇒x=-40/6
⇒x=-20/3
⇒y=-20×2/3
=-40/3
the two numbers are -20/3,-40/3.
