If it is assumed that a is smaller number
So according to the question:
2a=(23+a)-17
so,2a=6+a
So, a=6
So smaller no.=6
and larger no.=23+6=29

then the larger number = 2x-17
according to the question,
2x-17-x = 23
x=40

∴the larger number is 63 and smaller number is 40.
