SOLUTION :

Let the one  number be x and other number be (x +3)

A.T.Q

x × (x + 3) = 504

x² + 3x = 504

x² + 3x - 504 = 0

+ 24x - 21x  - 504 = 0

[By middle term splitting]

x(x + 24) - 21 (x + 24) = 0

(x + 24) (x - 21) = 0

(x + 24) = 0  or (x - 21) = 0

x = - 24  or  x =  21

Case 1 :

When x = - 24 , then other number be  (x + 3)  = (- 24 + 3) =  - 21

Case 2 :

When x = 21 , then other number be  (x + 3)  = (21 + 3) =  24

Hence, the two numbers are (21, 24)  and ( -21, -24) .

Answer:

21 and -24

Step-by-step explanation:

Let one number = x

Second number = x - 3

Product = 504

x( x - 3 ) = 504

x² - 3x - 504 = 0

x² - 24x + 21x - 24 × 21 = 0

x( x - 24 ) + 21( x - 24 ) = 0

( x - 24 ) ( x + 21 ) = 0

Therefore ,

x - 24 = 0 or x + 21 = 0

x = 24 or x = - 21

1 ) if x = 24 second number is 21

2 ) if x = -21 , second number is -24
