Two numbers are in ratio 4:7. If 3 is added to each number, the ratio becomes 5:8. Find the number.​

   $\frac{x}{y} = \frac{4}{7} \\\\\frac{x+3}{y+3} = \frac{5}{8}$      from given

8x+24 = 5y+15

8x-5y=-9

and we know 7x=4y so x=4y/7

Substituting value of x in equation

$\frac{32y}{7} -5y=-9$

32y-35y=-63

-3y=-63

y=21

x=4(21)/7=12

The numbers are 12:21
