Answer :

›»› The numbers are 8 and 14.

Given :

  • Two numbers are in ratio 4: 7. If thrice the larger be added to twice to the smaller, the sum is 59.

To Find :

  • The numbers.

Solution :

Let us assume that, the two required number is 4x and 7x respectively.

Thrice the larger number,

→ 3(7x)

21x

Twice the smaller number,

→ 2(4x)

8x

According to the given question,

The sum of two numbers is 59

→ 21x + 8x = 59

→ 29x = 59

→ x = 59/29

x = 2 [approximately]

Therefore,

→ The first number = 4x

→ The first number = 4 * 2

→ The first number = 8

→ The second number = 7x

→ The second number = 7 * 2

→ The second number = 14

Hence, the numbers are 8 and 14.
