Two numbers are in the ratio 2:3.If 5 is added to each other, the ratio becomes 5:7. Find the number​

Answer:

let the no be x and y

then,

x/y = 2/3

3x= 2y

3x-2y = 0. eq 1

and

x+5/y+5 = 5/7

7x+35 = 5y + 25

7x-5y = -10. eq 2

now

3x-2y = 0. multiplying it by 7

21x-14y = 0. eq 3

and

7x-5y = -10. multiplying it by 3

21x - 15y = -30. eq 4

now subtracting eq 2 from eq 1

21x-14y =0

21x-15y = -30

y = 30

now putting the value of y in eq 3 we get :-

7x -5×30 = -10

7x - 150 = - 10

7x = 150 - 10

7x = 140

x = 20

hence x = 20 and y = 30.
