QUESTION -

Two numbers are in the ratio 3:4 .

If 5 is added to each number ,their ratio becomes 7:9.

Find those numbers.

SOLUTION -

Two numbers are in the ratio 3:4 .

Let the required numbers be 3x and 4x respectively.

If 5 is added to each number ,their ratio becomes 7:9.

 \dfrac{ 3x + 5 }{ 4x + 5 } = \dfrac{ 7} { 9 } \\ \\ => 28x + 35 = 27x + 45 \\ \\ => x = 45 - 35 = 10

Number 1 : 3x = 30

Number 2 : 4x = 40

Given that,

  • Two numbers are in the ratio 3 : 4.
  • When 5 is added to each number, the ratio becomes 7 : 9.

To find :-

The numbers.

Solution :-

Let the numbers be 3x and 4x.

A/q,

(3x + 5)/(4x + 5) = 7/9

⇒9(3x + 5) = 7(4x + 5)

⇒27x + 45 = 28x + 35

⇒10 = x

∴ So, the numbers are 3x = 3*10 = 30 and 4x = 4*10 = 40.
