Answer :

  • The sum of numbers is 76.

Given :

  • Two numbers are in the ratio 3 : 5
  • If each number is increased by 19 , the ratio becomes 5 : 7

To find :

  • Sum of numbers

Solution :

Given , Two numbers are in the ratio 3 : 5 so,

  • Let the two numbers be 3x and 5x

And also Given that, each number is increased by 19 so , new numbers become ,

  • (3x + 19) and (5x + 19)

Ratio becomes 5 : 7 so,

According to question :

➟ (3x + 19) : (5x + 19) = 5 : 7

➟ (3x + 19)/(5x + 19) = 5/7

➟ 7(3x + 19) = 5(5x + 19)

➟ 21x + 133 = 25x + 95

➟ 25x - 21x = 133 - 95

➟ 4x = 38

➟ x = 38/4

➟ x = 9.5

Now, Finding the sum of numbers :

➟ (3x + 5x)

➟ 8x

➟ 8(9.5)

➟ 76

Hence , The sum of numbers is 76.
