Answer: (C) 40,48

Explanation:

According to given information

x/y=5/6

=> 6x-5y=0 ........(I)

x-8/y-8=4/5

=> 5x-40=4y-32

=> 5x-4y=8 ...........(II)

from eq. (I)

6x-5y=0

=> x=5y/6

substituting in......(II)

5x-4y=8

=>5[5y/6]-4y=8

=>y/6=8

=>y=48

THEREFORE

x=5y/6

=>x=5×48/6

=> x=40

Answer:

Two numbers are in the ratio 5 : 6

Let 5x, 6x be the two numbers

Then by the given condition

( 5x - 8) : ( 6x - 8) = 4 : 5

( 5x - 8) / ( 6x - 8) = 4 / 5

25x - 40 = 24x - 32

25x - 24x = 40 - 32

x = 8

So the required numbers are (5×8) = 40 & (6×8) = 48
